Medical and dental offices have higher cleaning standards than typical commercial buildings — and patients can tell. This checklist covers the protocols our cleaning crews run nightly in clinics across the Stockton – Merced region, using EPA-listed disinfectants and color-coded microfiber to control cross-contamination.

Waiting room and reception

• Disinfect reception counter, sign-in clipboards and POS terminals
• Disinfect all chairs and armrests with EPA-listed disinfectant
• Disinfect door handles, light switches and elevator buttons
• Disinfect children's play areas, books and toys
• Empty trash and replace liners with appropriate biohazard separation
• Vacuum carpets; sweep and damp-mop hard floors
• Spot-clean glass doors and partitions

Exam rooms and treatment areas

• Disinfect exam tables, stools, Mayo stands and counters with appropriate dwell time
• Disinfect cabinet handles, drawer pulls and faucet handles
• Wipe down vital signs equipment surfaces, light handles and computer mice
• Empty regulated medical waste only with appropriate PPE (when contracted)
• Spot-clean walls around exam tables and patient chairs
• Sweep and damp-mop with hospital-grade disinfectant
• Disinfect door handles on both sides before exit

Restrooms

• Disinfect toilets, urinals, sinks, partitions and grab bars
• Disinfect all high-touch points: door handles, dispensers, flush valves
• Restock toilet paper, paper towels, soap and seat covers
• Empty trash and feminine hygiene receptacles
• Damp-mop floors with disinfectant, paying attention to grout lines
• Polish mirrors and stainless steel fixtures

Common areas, hallways and offices

• Disinfect drinking fountains, vending machines and shared keyboards
• Empty trash from administrative offices and break areas
• Disinfect breakroom tables, microwave handles, refrigerator door pulls
• Spot-clean walls, baseboards and door frames
• Vacuum hallway and office carpets; damp-mop hard floors

Weekly and monthly medical office tasks

• Weekly: high dusting, polish stainless, detail-clean blinds
• Weekly: deep-clean restroom grout and tile
• Monthly: vent and HVAC return grill detail
• Monthly: spot extract carpets in waiting and treatment hallways
• Quarterly: full hot-water carpet extraction throughout
• Annual: VCT strip & wax in treatment hallways and exam rooms

Color-coded microfiber system

We use color-coded microfiber to prevent cross-contamination — for example, red for restrooms, yellow for exam rooms, blue for offices, and green for breakrooms. Mops and buckets follow the same color logic.

Approved disinfectants

All disinfectants used are EPA-listed for healthcare environments, including products effective against SARS-CoV-2, MRSA, C. difficile and TB-causing organisms. We document products and Safety Data Sheets on request.
